Rep Solano explained the amendment. keep expanding parental rights, but when it comes to standardized testing, we make it clear that parents dont have the right to advocate for their student. Read from a letter about TCAP from CDE -- every student enrolled in a public school is required to take the TCAP. One area of the law where we allow no parental rights. but under the supreme court ruling - the responsibility and right of parents. Doesnt understand why we have this amendment that was put on in the senate which excludes statewide assessments. Gets letters from parents saying that their rights have been violated. why are we making it even more clear in this bill that parents do not have the right to...

Rep Beezley - subjective vs. objective in nature. oppposes the amendment.

Rep Summers - does this fit under the title?

Rep Massey - yes

Rep Hamner - giving parents the right to opt out of surveys but not out of assessments. Why do we continue to use the word "assessment" throughout the bill.

Julie - assessment was added partially because it is included in the ___... Assessment is broad and can be used widely. Breadth of the term.

Rep Solano - must have wanted to make an assertion between assessments. one of the letters says that a parent was advocating for her child. not worth giving up her rights as a parent. All those same things applying to students for state assessments. Why are we making it even harder for a parent to advocate for their childs rights.
