Representative Gardner, prime sponsor, presented an overview of House Bill 06S-1004, concerning identification documents used to verify a person's employment eligibility. Representative Gardner explained the operation of the employment verification program created by the bill. Representative Gardner then discussed the fiscal impact of the bill and amendments he planned to offer to reduce the cost of the bill. Representative Gardner responded to questions regarding the fee associated with obtaining state identification.

Representative Gardner explained the cost savings that would be realized as a result of passage of amendment L.003 (Attachment F). Discussion ensued regarding the process by which a driver's license would be renewed under the program created by the bill. Representative Gardner responded to questions regarding the security of placing fingerprint information on a driver's license.
