Senator Evans, prime sponsor, reviewed the provisions of Senate Joint Resolution 06-025 concerning the designation of March 31 as Terri's Day of Remembrance and Celebration of the Culture of Life. Senator Groff asked if this day is already designated as Cesar Chavez Day. Senator Tupa asked if any other state has designated a day to Terri Shiavo. Senator Evans distributed a letter of support from the Colorado Cross-Disability Coalition (Attachment A). Senator Tupa spoke to the controversial nature of this issue.

02:55 PM -- The following persons testified on the bill:

02:55 PM -- Kendal Unruh, representing herself, testified in favor of the bill. She spoke to the importance of educating people on medical directives and living wills. Senator Tupa expressed compassion for the issue, but added that this is not an issue for the government to become involved in. Senator Johnson indicated that this resolution is neutral, and does not draw conclusions on what decision a person should make.

Doug McBurney, representing himself, testified in favor of the bill. He spoke to his involvement with the Terri Shiavo case. Mr. Burney asked that the committee encourage and preserve life.

03:09 PM --
David Knight, representing himself, testified in opposition to the bill. He said this is an instance where the state of Colorado does not need to get involved.

Senator Evans provided closing comments on the bill. Senator Fitz-Gerald expressed concern about the resolution as it pertains to the Culture of Life Foundation.
