Representative Schultheis cited medical journals and newspaper articles regarding infectious diseases.

03:21 PM -- Dr. Richard L. Vogt, representing Public Health Directors of Colorado and the Tri-County Health Department, testified in opposition to House Bill 06-1286. Committee members received a position paper on the bill by the Public Health Directors of Colorado (Attachment K). Dr. Vogt explained that identifying illegal immigrants is outside the mission of public health departments and that passage of the bill would place additional burdens on such departments. Dr. Vogt responded to questions regarding the impact of illegal immigration on public health. Discussion ensued regarding diseases that can be transmitted through food and food handling.
