Representative Schultheis presented an overview of House Bill 06-1290, concerning employer participation in the extended federal basic employment verification pilot program for the purpose of determining the work eligibility status of employees. Representative Schultheis responded to a question regarding system used by employers to comply with the program. Committee members received a printout of information regarding employee verification programs from the United States Citizen and Immigration Services website (Attachment M).

Representative Schultheis presented a second overview of House Bill 06-1290. A discussion ensued regarding the status of the basic employment verification pilot program. The committee discussed a report to the United States Congress regarding the pilot program (Attachment N). The committee then discussed the fining of employers that don't apply for participation in the pilot program, as well as the overall cost of the program.
