02:22 PM -- Senate Bill 06-221

Senator Hagedorn introduced his bill regarding the establishment of a trauma care reimbursement program for the state. He provided a strike-below amendment to the committee (Attachment C) that would add a study of funding for statewide trauma care to the list of possible areas of study by the Health Care Task Force. Senator Wiens spoke about the necessity of including first responder funding for natural disasters and other emergency situations in such a study. The committee discussed broadening the charge to examine all kinds of unreimbursed costs of health care providers to include trauma care, emergency preparedness, as well as auto insurance.

02:39 PM --
Kevin Klein, Colorado State Fire Chiefs Association and Trauma Care Preservation Coalition, spoke in support of the proposed amendment to the bill.

02:43 PM --
Dr. Andrew Berson, Memorial Hospital Central, spoke in support of the proposed amendment and discribed his experiences as a trauma care provider. He responded to questions from the committee regarding the different levels of trauma centers across the state. Senator Veiga raised a question as to whether the state has an overabundance of level one and two trauma care providers.

02:58 PM --
David Patterson, Rural/Metro Ambulance and Emergency Medical Services Association of Colorado, spoke in support of the proposed amendment.

02:59 PM --
