The meeting was called to order by the chairman, Representative Todd.


01:12 PM

In discussing the differences between the reengrossed and rerevised versions, Representative Todd asked for discussion of the provision added in the Senate for fingerprinting. Senator Windels explained the amendment made in the Senate and provided background on its goals and potential implementation. Representative Massey discussed the potential wait and backlog for fingerprinting and raised issues concerning fingerprinting elected officials.

Representative Merrifield commented on the proposed fingerprinting of school district board members. He discussed instances when felons have been elected to school boards with the electorate unaware of these facts. The committee continued to discuss the contact that school board members have with students.

Representative Todd reminded the committee of the discussions that had taken place in the House and her reasons for requesting the conference committee. Committee members continued to talk about their positions on the fingerprinting amendment.
