11:22 AM -- Confirmation Hearing for Wildlife Commission Nominees

The nominees, Robert Bray and Richard Ray, introduced themselves, and gave an overview of their background and experience. A copy of the nominees' appointment letter, application, and resume are attached (Attachment A). Responding to a committee question on wolf reintroduction in the state, Mr. Bray said he supports the plan drafted by the Colorado Wolf Working Group regarding wolves that migrate into Colorado. Responding to another committee question, he noted that predator issues were a contributing factor in his decision to exit the sheep business. Senator Tochtrop expressed concern regarding the number of wildlife license preferences given to private landowners in the state. Mr. Bray said he supports the current 15 percent license allocation to private landowners, but that it is an issue that needs to be further examined by the Commission's working group on this issue.

11:38 AM

Responding to a committee question, Mr. Ray and Mr. Bray both said they would not like to see the private landowner wildlife license preference regress below 15 percent, which has been set in statute. Mr. Bray said there may be room for an increase in private landowner license preferences in some parts of the state, but that a blanket increase may not be appropriate.

11:43 AM --
Garin Bray, Colorado Farm Bureau, testified in favor Mr. Bray's nomination.

11:45 AM -- Ed Robinson, representing himself, testified in favor of Mr. Ray's nomination.
