03:04 PM -- Senate Bill 05-222

Senator Entz gave an overview of SB 05-222 concerning gasoline and special fuel tax, and, in connection therewith, reconciling different measurements used for calculating tax on gasoline and special fuel, requiring electronic fund transfers for gasoline and special fuel tax remittances, and changing the due date for the filing of reports and remittances of tax. A handout prepared by the Colorado Wyoming Petroleum Marketers Association was distributed to the committee (Attachment A).

03:11 PM -- Confirmation Hearing for Nominees to the Coal Mine Board of Examiners

Ron Cattany, Director of the Division of Minerals and Geology, Department of Natural Resources, gave a brief introduction to the Coal Mine Board of Examiners. The nominees are Terrance J. Hayes, Crecencio O. Salazar, Karl C. Koehler, and Trent A. Peterson. A copy of the nominees' appointment letter, application, and resume are attached (Attachment B).

Mr. Koehler, who is being reappointed, described his experience on the board, and what he views as important issues facing the coal mine industry in Colorado, such as training and certifying younger workers for the industry.

Mr. Peterson, who is being reappointed, noted his experience, and what he sees as the role of the board.

Mr. Salazar, who is also being reappointed, described his background and experience related to the board.

03:19 PM --
Mr. Hayes, a new appointee, gave an overview of his background and experience in coal mining. He mentioned that he thought training and education of coal mine workers is important.

Mr. Salazar described the position and responsibilities of a fire boss in a coal mine, and noted how many tons of coal is produced daily on average in the mine he works in.

Mr. Peterson gave an overview of the Minerals, Energy, and Geology Board, of which he is a member.
