Concerning the Regulation of Medication Administered by Certified Nurse Aides

Representative Jahn, prime sponsor, explained the provisions of the bill. Representative Jahn commented that Senate Bill 05-155 requires a certified nurse aide to meet specific prerequisites before receiving training as a medication aide to administer medications in nursing facilities.

Representative Cloer distributed amendment L.015 (Attachment B) to committee members and explained that the amendment would require aids to be on the job for a 60-day period prior to being authorized to issue medications under the legislation. The intent of the amendment is to allow time for nursing aids to get to know patients before medications can be administered.
