Ron Cattany, Director of the Division of Minerals and Geology, Department of Natural Resources, gave a brief introduction to the Coal Mine Board of Examiners. The nominees are Terrance J. Hayes, Crecencio O. Salazar, Karl C. Koehler, and Trent A. Peterson. A copy of the nominees' appointment letter, application, and resume are attached (Attachment B).


03:13 PM -- Mr. Koehler, who is being reappointed, described his experience on the board, and what he views as important issues facing the coal mine industry in Colorado, such as training and certifying younger workers for the industry.


03:15 PM -- Mr. Peterson, who is being reappointed, noted his experience, and what he sees as the role of the board.


03:17 PM -- Mr. Salazar, who is also being reappointed, described his background and experience related to the board.


03:19 PM -- Mr. Hayes, a new appointee, gave an overview of his background and experience in coal mining. He mentioned that he thought training and education of coal mine workers is important.


03:23 PM

Mr. Salazar described the position and responsibilities of a fire boss in a coal mine, and noted how many tons of coal is produced daily on average in the mine he works in.

Mr. Peterson gave an overview of the Minerals, Energy, and Geology Board, of which he is a member.
