10:01 AM -- Confirmation Hearing for Nominees to the Mined Land Reclamation Board
Ron Cattany, Director of the Division of Mineral and Geology, Department of Natural Resources (DNR), gave an overview of the Mined Land Reclamation Board's responsibilities.

Russell George, Executive Director of DNR, noted that he has been very impressed with the work the board has done, and particularly the work of the two nominees, Harry Javernick and Catherine Kraeger-Rovey, who are being reappointed.

Senator Isgar asked the nominees to introduce themselves and describe their experience on the board. Ms. Kraeger-Rovey stated this would be her fifth appointment to the board, and that she enjoys the work very much. She said she is a Colorado native, and is very concerned with environmentally responsible mining in the state and being able to contribute to that.

Mr. Javernick introduced himself, and said this would be his third appointment to the board. He is also a Colorado native, and a former professional football player.

Senator Entz commented that he thought it was good the nominees have some continuity in serving on the board.

Senator Taylor asked Ms. Kraeger-Rovey how she thought environmentally responsible mining should be conducted in the state. Ms. Kraeger-Rovey noted that the application of laws that protect water quality and the environment, and the board ensuring compliance with those laws, is the best method.

Diane Rees, Colorado Rock Products Association, testified in favor of recommending the nominees favorably to the full Senate.
