The committee returned to order. Representative Keyser, prime sponsor, presented House Bill 15-1181. The bill allows a state income tax deduction for military income earned by a Colorado resident stationed outside the state on active military duty. To qualify, the service person's military home of record and state of legal residence must be located in Colorado. The state income tax deduction will be available for tax years 2016 through 2020.

Gary Force, representing the United Veterans Committee (UVC), testified in support of the bill. Mr. Force indicated that the UVC members voted unanimously to support the bill. He spoke about the practice of military service members changing their official state of residence to save money. He responded to questions from the committee about this practice.
