Representatives Hamner and Rankin, co-prime sponsors, introduced Senate Bill 15-288. The bill aligns the salaries paid to State Legislators, the Governor, the Lieutenant Governor, the Secretary of State, the Attorney General, and the State Treasurer, with the salaries paid to certain judicial branch officials. The adjustments take effect for terms beginning in January 2019. The bill also increases the salaries of certain categories of elected county officials. Representative Hamner noted the increase does not go into effect until 2019. Representative Rankin noted that the push for this bill comes from county officials, not from legislative members.

02:27 PM -- Ms. Teak Simonton and Ms. Beverly Breakstone, representing the County Elected Salary Commission, testified in support of the bill. They distributed a handout (Attachment D) and a Denver Post Editorial (Attachment E). They both noted that the bill allows counties to remain competitive in recruiting and keeping top talent.

02:33 PM -- Ms. Christine Watson, representing the League of Women's Voters, testified in support of the bill. She noted that some citizen groups do believe this bill is good state fiscal policy because it helps government entities recruit and retain top talent.
