Senator Roberts opened public testimony on House Bill 15-1229, concerning retaliation against a prosecutor. Mr. Dave Young, representing Colorado District Attorneys' Council, testified in support of the bill. Mr. Young explained instances where attorneys have been threatened or retaliated against. In response to committee questions, Mr. Young discussed how the law may discourage inmates from writing threatening letters, the penalties available for retaliatory actions under current state law, and federal laws pertaining to retaliation against prosecutors. Mr. Young and Senator Martinez Humenik discussed the absence of harassment in the bill.

Senator Martinez Humenik presented HB 15-1229. Senator Martinez Humenik discussed instances of violence that led to the bill. She stated that judges and jurors have similar protections under the law and that those protections should be extended to prosecutors.
