Representative Joshi presented House Bill 15-1141. This bill requires that a hospital include the amount of the hospital provider fee as a separate line item on its billing statement. The hospital provider fee was established under House Bill 09-1293, which authorized the Department of Health Care Policy to seek federal approval to collect a fee from hospitals and use this revenue to obtain federal matching funds for the state's Medicaid program. Federal approval was received in April 2010. Under current law, a hospital is prohibited from including this information on its billing statements.
