01:33 PM -- Report from Capitol Art Collection Master Plan Subcommittee

Senator Newell called the meeting to order. A quorum was not immediately present but did eventually arrive.

Ms. Nan Anderson, Anderson Hallas Architects, updated the committee on the restoration of the House and Senate Chambers. She noted that the project will be complete by December 11, 2014.

Ms. Georiganna Contiguglia, subcommittee chair, updated the committee on the Capitol Art Collection Master Plan Subcommittee. She discussed the subcommittee's work to catalogue and photograph the Governors' portraits recently found in the State Archives. She explained that the inventory would be used to appraise and study the portraits. She added information about possible locations to hang the new portraits.

Ms. Contiguglia noted that the presidential portraits are being cleaned in batches, and she expressed satisfaction with the newly acquired giclee of the Bill Clinton portrait. She also updated the committee about the Liberty Bell restoration and the Pike portrait.

Committee members received a status report from the subcommittee (Attachment A).

Ms. Bishop and Ms. Contiguglia discussed the artists who painted the Governors' portraits. Ms. Contiguglia noted that the various artists will need to be researched. Mr. Damion Pechota, Legislative Council Staff, explained that the portraits will be appraised separately from the Capitol art collection. Ms. Anderson and Mr. Pechota discussed the existing information at State Archives about the portraits. Committee discussion continued on this point.

Ms. Eddins and Mr. Pechota discussed the need for more historical information about the artwork in the House Chambers.

Senator Newell and Ms. Contiguglia discussed the appraisal package for the Capitol art collection and when it would go out for bid. Mr. Pechota explained that a list of potential bidders needs to be established. Ms. Contiguglia and Mr. Lee further clarified the bidding process.
