02:40 PM -- Approval of Aid

Mike Mauer, Legislative Council Director, talked about the number of legislative aide hours allotted for the upcoming legislative session. He explained that the House members are asking for 690 aide hours, 420 of which will be session only, and the remaining 270 of which can be used at anytime. The Senate is asking for 960 hours, 420 of which begin immediately. The remaining 540 Senate aide hours may be obtained through approval from a member's party leader, either the President or the Minority Leader, provided that funding is available through salary savings, vacancy savings, or other sources. Mr. Mauer explained that all hours are to be used on the capitol complex. He added that the Joint Budget Committee (JBC) aide hours can begin November 14 and returning member's aide hours can begin on December 5.
