01:35 PM -- Interactive Exhibit for Mr. Brown's Attic

Ms. Diana Barney, House Majority Office, came to the table to talk to the committee about the proposed interactive exhibit for Mr. Brown's Attic. Ms. Barney provided a number of handouts related to the exhibit (Attachments A through D). The exhibit is a replica of the desks used by the members of the House of Representatives. She described the desk and the display board. She explained that questions will appear on the display, allowing visitors to vote by pushing the red or green button on the desk.

Ms. Barney responded to committee questions about the display. She said that the display will tally up to 999 votes before resetting to zero. Ms. Barney explained that she had met with teachers and students in selecting the questions for the voting desk. She described the process used to select the questions for the display, saying there were ten questions upon which all of the students agreed.

Ms. Barney explained that the desk, display screen, and installation have been paid for. She said the layout and installation is being supervised by Lance Shepherd in the State Architect's Office and said the desk will be installed in May.

Ms. Contiguglia referred the committee to the pages of the handout that contains the list of questions being proposed (pages two and three of Attachment A). Ms. Barney talked about the discussions the children had in choosing the questions. Senator Bacon commented that he asked members of the Senate to weigh in on the questions, but got only one response.

Referring to the language under the heading "VOTE!" on page one of Attachment A, Senator Bacon noted that a roll call is taken in the Senate only it if is requested. Ms. Barney said she would make that correction and would bring it to Senator Bacon for approval.
