12:36 PM

Representative Benefield called the committee to order. Senator Hudak expressed her opposition to the draft conference committee report (Attachment A). She stated that the budget report that the bill proposes to repeal is important for transparency. Senator King stated that he supports the conference committee report because he believes that the budget report is unnecessary. He shared his experience in completing the budget report for his charter school, noting the time it took to compile the information and that it is not worth it for only one organization to use it.

Representative Benefield explained why she requested the conference committee, discussing the work of the Education Data Advisory Committee (EDAC) and that repealing this report was one of the recommendations from EDAC. She further explained that, until 2008, the report had been repealed from statute for 10 years. She acknowledged the importance of the information contained in the report for certain purposes, but stated that with the cuts to schools, she does not feel that it should be in law at this time.

12:41 PM

Senator Hudak responded to Representative Benefield's comments, noting that she believes it is even more important in the current budget environment to have this information available and reiterated the importance of transparency when districts are cutting budgets.
