Representative McFadyen called the committee back to order. Director Doug Dean, Public Utilities Commission (PUC), introduced himself and staff to the committee. He provided background and history of the PUC and its responsibilities. The PUC is entirely cash funded and is composed of 100 full-time positions, 85 of which are currently filled. He also provided information on the PUC Transportation Section and funding challenges. Director Dean responded to questions from committee members.

Senator Williams discussed public resources regarding state regulation and asked Director Dean to explain PUC public transparency efforts. She also asked for information on the PUC public complaint process.

Director Dean discussed PUC rule-making authority and upcoming legislation.

Senator Gibbs introduced Ms. Kelli Kelty, Legislative Council Staff, who will staff the Senate Transportation Committee during the 2010 session. The committee adjourned.
