THE SENATE, 2000

No matter whether from cities, town, suburbs, or farms,
each day we all must pass the sergeants at arms.
Now, I've got to tell you, these guys aren't all that scary,
they look like someone my aunts would marry.
Then up front there are those who can't be late,
it's their job to keep all the paper work straight.
Soon the reading clerk starts his reading
and I wonder why he's not pulled over for speeding!
Every once and awhile at the microphone there's a jokesterin',
which is one way on Monday mornings to get the folks a stirrin'.
Before the legislative session closes,
you will have done guns and Moses;
amendments
and commandments.
Beneath the Capitol dome,
a bill on religious meetings at home.
While some are thinking of term limit farewells,
there was a bill dealing with the usual farm smells.
Now if you disagree, or so I think,
on the Senate floor you can raise a stink.
Pushing learning and education hard,
some want to give schools their own report card.
Campaign finance reform
always kicks up quite a storm.
Then there is the question how we can have both,
quality of life and booming growth? at times it must seem what's needed are more buckets to bail!

You study, work hard, you're certainly not lazy, unless, of course, a run for the House will be your encore.
