INTRODUCTION OF RESOLUTIONS
The following resolutions were read by title and laid over one day under the rules:
HR00-1011 by Representatives Hagedorn, Alexander, Allen, Gordon, Gotlieb, Keller, Lee, Morrison, Takis, and Tochtrop--Concerning honoring the Anschutz Foundation.
WHEREAS, The Anschutz Foundation, founded by Mr. Philip Anschutz in 1965, has been instrumental in furthering charitable causes in Denver and the state of Colorado; and
WHEREAS, On January 10, 2000, the Anschutz Foundation gave a $25 million gift to the University of Colorado Hospital; and
WHEREAS, This gift is the largest single gift to a public institution in the history of the University of Colorado and in the history of the state of Colorado and will significantly impact the ability of the University of Colorado Hospital to meet its mission of research, education, patient care, and service to the community; and
WHEREAS, This gift may serve as a catalyst for continued private, state, and federal funding for the University of Colorado Hospital; and
WHEREAS, The $25 million gift will be used to complete the construction of the Anschutz Centers for Advanced Medicine on the new Fitzsimons campus. The Anschutz Centers for Advanced Medicine will house two buildings, one for specialty clinics and ambulatory care activities and one for the University of Colorado Cancer Center outpatient care; and
WHEREAS, The Anschutz Centers for Advanced Medicine will encompass the Outpatient Pavilion, the first facility of its kind in the Rocky Mountain region, providing comprehensive outpatient care in one location, and the Cancer Pavilion; and
WHEREAS, The Anschutz Centers for Advanced Medicine will provide services to all of Colorado, the surrounding states, and the nation; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Sixty-second General Assembly of the State of Colorado:
That the Colorado House of Representatives, on behalf of the citizens of the state of Colorado, express their profound gratitude to the Anschutz Foundation for its gift to the University of Colorado Hospital and its continued charitable acts on behalf of the citizens of the state of Colorado._________

WHEREAS, The state of Colorado is committed to excellence in education; and
WHEREAS, The state recognizes the importance of parental choices in pursuit of educational excellence and the significance of family involvement in education; and
WHEREAS, The state of Colorado recognizes the right of parents to direct the education and upbringing of their children; and
WHEREAS, Home education was proven successful in the lives of George Washington, Patrick Henry, John Quincy Adams, John Marshall, Robert E. Lee, Booker T. Washington, Thomas Edison, Abraham Lincoln, Franklin Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Mark Twain, John Singleton Copley, William Carey, Phyllis Wheatley, and Andrew Carnegie; and
WHEREAS, Home education is the fastest growing educational alternative in this country and a growing number of parents in Colorado have chosen to teach their children at home; and
WHEREAS, Home education gives families the opportunity for their children to receive a sound academic education, while simultaneously strengthening the family; and
WHEREAS, Most young people educated at home have been shown to score above average on nationally standardized tests that measure academic and social development and ability; and
WHEREAS, It is appropriate that Colorado home educators and home-educated children be recognized for their contribution to the diversity and quality of education in this great state; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Sixty-second General Assembly of the State of Colorado, the Senate concurring herein:
That the General Assembly honors, thanks, and celebrates the home educators and the home-educated children of this state and recognizes March 9, 2000, as Home Education Day in Colorado.
Be It Further Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be sent to Christian Home Educators of Colorado, Colorado Home Educators Association, and Concerned Parents of Colorado.
On motion of Representative Dean, the rules were suspended and the resolution given immediate consideration.
On motion of Representative Lee, the resolution was read at length and adopted by viva voce vote.
